Server Software Update Notification: 08-13-2009

The following emergency updates will be completed today (8/13/2009) in all data centers:

Linux MPS/VPS

BIND
The default system BIND implementation of the DNS protocol was updated to version 9.2.4-30.el4_8.4 to address a security vulnerability (CVE-2009-0696), discussed here:

The local caching name server will be restarted as part of this update. For default installations, no action needed.
Note: For customers who have modified the default BIND implementation, Verio has updated the shared binary available in /skel as well as the RPM repository, but will not modify or restart custom BIND implementations. Those customers who have implemented their own BIND installation or configurations should update those implementations.

FreeBSD MPS/VPS v3

BIND
The default system BIND implementation of the DNS protocol version 9.3.4-P1 was updated to address a security vulnerability (CVE-2009-0696), discussed here:

The local caching name server will be restarted as part of this update. For default installations, no action needed.
