FreeBSD MPS Getting Started Guide
FreeBSD Managed Private Servers, version three (MPS v3) offers the benefits of a managed hosting solution with the flexibility
of a dedicated UNIX server. The customized technology of the MPS v3 provides a solution where the FreeBSD UNIX, version 6.0
operating system and core services are managed for you. However, you have full root access to your files and programs.
This document provides information for basic administration of your MPS v3. It provides important information about creating
users, configuring email and subhosts (or virtual hosts), and server software management to help you quickly begin using your
MPS v3.
This guide discusses server management from a shell command line and assumes you understand shell clients and command-line
interaction with UNIX-style servers. If you do not use shell command line or are not familiar with shell interaction, you can
install and use the CPX: Control Panel Web interface. For more information about CPX: Control Panel, refer to the CPX Getting
Started Guide.
Your MPS v3 includes several v-commands. These commands, created specifically for your product, allow for easy server
administration.
Some examples discussed in this guide include vadduser, vrmuser, vaddhost, and vinstall.
The Getting Started Guide describes how to add, remove, or configure server users, email addresses, aliases, virtual mappings
(virtmaps), and catchalls, and subhosted Web site configurations. In addition, this document describes how to use custom
